LJEA presents at the McDowell County Schools Convocation

On Tuesday, 18 August, Rachel Pedler (Chair of LJEA’s Education Committee) and two other volunteers (Stacey Johnson and Jack Raker) presented at the McDowell County Schools Fall Convocation. Twenty one teachers from grades K-12 learned about LJEA’s educational programs and resources. Rachel walked the group through NC Science Curriculum Standards across the grades and explained how LJEA resources can help address those standards. Then, Rachel, Stacey and Jack demonstrated LJEA’s watershed and groundwater models and other resources, explained how our Kids-In-The-Creek (KITC) program can enrich in-classroom learning and provide an educational and fun outdoor learning experience.

Thank you: Rachel, Stacey, and Jack. Their efforts, combined with the completion of the repairs to Helene’s damage to our KITC education site along the Marion Greenway, leaves us excited to get LJEA volunteers back into the classroom and our students back into their river.
