Tour of Fonta Flora County Park Habitat Enhancement Sites
Lake James Environmental Association hosted a tour of two Habitat Enhancement Project sites at Fonta Flora County Park. Each site has benefited from improved forest management, erosion control, planting of native plant species, and the use of dead trees to control erosion and build wildlife habitat structures. These nature-based measures can be applied to many areas, including your own yard. In addition to benefiting the wildlife and human visitors to the Park, LJEA is planning to use the Park as a long-term environmental education site. The project was funded by grants from the Duke Energy Catawba-Wateree Habitat Enhancement Program and Lake James Environmental Association.
The tours were led by our dedicated, recently graduated, college interns who explained the many components of this project. A tour booklet and list of the native species planted on the sites are available upon request. Email [email protected]
