Dateline: 2 June 2026: LJEA Presents to Marion City Council
Rachel Pedler, McDowell High School Science Teacher and Chair of LJEA’s Education Committee, made a presentation to the Marion City Council at its June 2 regular meeting. Rachel told the Council about her experience with LJEA’s Kids-In-The-Creek (KITC) program and the importance of LJEA’s proposed improvements on its educational site along the Joseph McDowell Catawba River Greenway. Hurricane Helene damaged the site that LJEA has used for 15 years to provide hundreds of McDowell County students with fun and educational field experiences every year. This project, to be completed without any funds from the City, is essential to restoring the site to a safe and more easily accessible condition.
